Leslie Terrance "Terry" Flatt, 84, of Moweaqua, died June 25, 2023 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023 in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua.  Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until service time, also in the funeral home.  Burial, with full military honors, will be held in Bethany Cemetery, Moweaqua.  Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Missionary Fund.

Terry was born on November 11, 1938 in Walker Township, Greene County, Carrollton, IL, the son of Leslie and Hazel (Dawdy) Flatt.  He married Carolyn Ray nearly 60 years ago on September 14, 1963 in Jerseyville, IL.  She survives.

Terry was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Moweaqua and made his profession of faith in the Lord Jesus at the Eldred Baptist Church in March of 1950, at the age of 11, along with his father.  He was a graduate of Carrollton High School and the University of Illinois. Terry proudly served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp.  During his time of service, he had the honor of marching with his platoon in the Inaugural Parade of President John F. Kennedy.  Terry later graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Banking.  He was employed in banking for 50 years, serving the last 25 years with Ayars Bank in Moweaqua, retiring in April 2016.  Terry was also a long-time member of the Moweaqua Rotary Club, where he received the Paul Harris Fellow award.

Terry loved his family and horses, beginning with his childhood horse, Dusty.  He enjoyed photography, gardening, planting trees and hosting wiener roasts, which he did for many years.  He was an avid antique collector, especially anything related to farming.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; children: Shawn (Tere) Flatt of Pretoria, South Africa and Candace (Warren Hartman) Flatt of Springfield, IL; grandchildren: Evan (Kennedy) Flatt of Charleston, IL, Eli Flatt of Decatur, IL, Isaac Flatt of Pretoria, South Africa and Brandon Hartman of Mt. Zion, IL; sister, Joyce Morrison of Fieldon, IL; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dunham of St. Peters, MO; nephews: Dennis Gowin, Dirk Gowin and Jeff Duncan; and nieces: Donna Gowin, Dixie Williams and Judy Wright.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Leslie and Hazel Flatt; and sisters: Barbara Gowin and Martha Duncan.
