Obituary

Ronald "Ronnie" Franklin Sloan, 78, of Assumption, passed away November 11, 2023 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2023 in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption. A private family committal, in Little Flock Cemetery, will be at a later time.  Memorials may be made to Central A&M FFA or Assumption Ambulance Service.

Ronnie was born on December 4, 1944 in Moweaqua, IL, the son of Franklin and Letha (Chism) Sloan.  He married Delores Lehman on December 29, 1963 in Westervelt, IL.  They were married almost 60 years.

Ronnie grew up and graduated from Findlay High School, where he served as president of the FFA.  The class of 1963 was very close, holding reunions every year.  This past summer they celebrated 60 years with a gathering.

Ronnie was a member of Little Flock Baptist Church in rural Moweaqua. He was a lifelong farmer, which began with his dad and continued with his four sons and even some grandsons.  He had just finished his 60th harvest on October 24, 2023 running the combine.  Ronnie enjoyed many sports.  He coached his sons in Little League and basketball.  Later in life, one of his joys was watching his grandchildren play sports. He was active in the Assumption Community, serving on the Assumption School Board as well as the Booster Club.  He was one of the founders of the Assumption Alumni Tournament and a member of Assumption Bass Fishing Club.

Surviving are his wife, Delores; sons: Steve (Lori) Sloan of Tower Hill, IL, Rod (Christina) Sloan of Assumption, IL, Ted (Christa) Sloan of Assumption, IL and Jeff (Lisa) Sloan of Shelbyville, IL; daughters: Alice (Bret) Dawkins of Sullivan, IL and Ronda (Jacob) Elder of Assumption, IL; nineteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters: Sandra Duzan of Shelbyville, WI and Donna Jean (Tom) Vannier of S. Carolina; and sister-in-law, Sally Sloan.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers: Richard and Kenny; grandson-in-law, Todd Cole; and great-granddaughter, Marleigh.
