Roger W. Ater, 79, of Moweaqua, passed away September 9, 2026 at his home, surrounded by family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2026 in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua, IL. A visitation will be from 12:00 2:00 p.m., prior to service time. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Westside Cemetery, Moweaqua, IL. Memorials may be made to the Moweaqua Food Pantry.

Roger was born on August 21, 1947 in Decatur, IL, the son of Ralph and Isabelle (Johnson) Ater. He married Sue Shields on December 31, 1970 in Moweaqua, IL. She survives.

Roger was a former member of Moweaqua Sanner Chapel United Methodist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later worked as a mechanic in several locations before spending his later years driving a semi-truck.

Roger had a lifelong love of cars and was especially talented and creative when it came to customizing vehicles, with pinstriping being one of his specialties.

Surviving are his wife, Sue; sons: Todd (Traci) Ater of Assumption, IL, Chris Ater, Tracey Ater, Justin Ater and Adam Ater, all of Moweaqua, IL; Stacey Ater of Decatur, IL, Jennifer (Jacob) Readnour of Moweaqua, IL, Sarah (Austin) Klaus of Decatur, IL, and Andrea Ater of Moweaqua, IL; grandchildren: Justice (Lorran), Jadon, Felicity, Malachai, Sierra (Johnny), Johnathan, Kinzie, Bryce, Autumn, Carter, Gage, Link, Liam, and Lucas; and brother, Art (Barb) Ater of Macon, IL.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Jim Ater; and sister, Beverly Stinson.
