Robert L. Brackett, 96, of Assumption, died March 20, 2022 in Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab, Taylorville, IL.

Graveside funeral services, with full military honors, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2022 in Pleasant View Cemetery.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time, also in Pleasant View Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Assumption American Legion Post #284.

Robert was born on February 13, 1926, in Assumption, IL, the son of Charles W. and Alpha O. (Davis) Brackett.  He married Leah M. "Gyp" Jones on August 28, 1946 in Alameda, CA.  She preceded him in death on December 28, 2017.

Robert was a member of Assumption Christian Church, serving as an elder and deacon for many years.  He also held a position as an Assumption city alderman. Robert proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded a Purple Heart in 1946 in the Pacific Theater.  He belonged to the Assumption American Legion Post #284 for over fifty years and was retired from Assumption Cooperative Grain Company.

Surviving are his children: Robert L. (Cynthia Lammert) Brackett of Champaign, IL, John Brackett, of Assumption, IL and Jane Brackett of Assumption, IL; grandchildren: Amy Ohl, Lori Barnes, Robert Brackett, Alan Brackett, Mikael Brackett and Kevin Brackett; and great-grandchildren: Kohlby Ohl, Konnor Ohl, Braelynn Barnes and Brody Barnes.

Preceding him in death are his wife, Leah, parents, four brothers, one sister and two step-mothers.
