Assumption
Rita Anne Barnes, 82, of Assumption, died May 17, 2018 in her home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Assumption. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018 in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption. A prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Assumption. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Assumption Community Pride for St. Jude Runners.
Rita was born January 21, 1936 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Edgar and Elizabeth "Betty" (Michael) Demascal. She married William E. Barnes in Assumption, IL April 24, 1954. He preceded her in death December 15, 1999.
Rita was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Assumption, where she served on the Altar Society and as the organist. She was also a member of the Assumption Historical Society and Assumption Community Pride. Rita taught piano, organ and guitar lessons for many years.
Surviving are her sons: Paul (Dawn) Barnes of Mackinaw, IL, Pat Barnes of Hinckley, IL, Perry (Diana) Barnes of Assumption, IL, Chris (Pam) Barnes of Simsbury, CT and Curt (Bridgette) Barnes of Hoffman Estates, IL; daughters: Pam (Eric) Donnewald, of Springfield, IL, Cheryl (Eldon) Weeks, Cathy (Jerry) Jones, Carol Dance all of Assumption, IL and Kelly Barnes of Wheaton, IL; eighteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild and several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters: Mary (Aubrey "Hub") Barnes of Symerton, IL and Elizabeth Jane Evaschuk of Naperville, IL. She is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Preceding her in death are her husband, daughter, Lisa Anne, parents, brother, Joseph "Dee" Demascal and daughter-in-law, Linda Barnes.
