Ray V. Dennis, 92 of Pana, formerly of Decatur, died September 8, 2020 in Life's Journey Senior Living, Pana, Illinois
Ray was born on February 9, 1928 in Decatur, Il., The son of Charles and Julia (Robards) Dennis. After the early death of his father he was lovingly raised by his stepfather Lloyd Hartman. He married Shirley Chapman on January 18, 1948 in Moweaqua, Il. She survives.
Ray dedicated his life to his wife and children. Even after 72 years of marriage their love for each other was very apparent.
Ray proudly served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1949 as a seaman first class. He served on board the USS Franklin D Roosevelt and USS Williamsburg. He was awarded the US victory medal, good conduct medal, and American area campaign medal. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Ray went to work as a lineman for Illinois power for 40 years where he became a member of the IBEW Local 51 out of Springfield. He served as their past president. Ray also was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Ansar Shriners, American Legion, and Lions Club.
Surviving are his son, Tony and wife, Carol (who he lovingly referred to as one of his daughters) Dennis of Herrick; daughters: Rae Ann Bartels of Colorado, Marilyn Ruth Jones of Moweaqua, IL and Gay (Robert) Raskin of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Michelle Euler (Jerry Mills) of Colorado, Kristina (Duston) Harris of Colorado, Scott (Karen) Jewsbury of Washington, Corey (Emily) Jewsbury of Pana, IL and Eric (Diana) Jewsbury of Danville, IL, Juli (Ian) Slade of Hawaii, Sam Jones of Champaign, IL, Larry (Heather) Goetz of Decatur, IL, Adam (Jenny) Goetz of Maroa, IL, Shelby Dennis of Pana, IL and Logan Dennis of Pana, IL; twenty three great grandchildren and twenty great great grandchildren.
Proceeding him in death are his parents, stepfather, brother Charles Dennis and grandson Michael Euler.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cards and memorial contributions may be sent to Seitz Funeral Home 118 East Main St. Moweaqua , IL 62550. Memorials may be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.
