Phyllis C. Mathias, 83, of Moweaqua died peacefully on June 21, 2021, surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2021 in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption.  Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption.

Memorials may be made to Central A&M Schools.

Phyllis was born on January 3, 1938, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Kenneth and Mildred (Seagle) Moss.  She married John Mathias, Jr. on November 4, 1967 in Macon, IL.  He preceded her in death on July 21, 2003.

Phyllis was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of God of Assumption and First Baptist Church of Moweaqua.  She was a retired elementary teacher.  Phyllis graduated from Eastern Illinois University, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She continued her own education by attending several other universities during her teaching career.  Phyllis taught for eight years in Decatur and twenty-six in Moweaqua. She also held several offices in the Shelby County Retired Teachers Association.

Surviving are her son, Kevin (Lori) Mathias of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Rebecca, Shawn, Britney and Jordan; great-grandchildren: Sariyah, Shawnna, Ivy, Wyatt, Remi, Chloe and Nora; brother, Norman (Connie) Moss of Colorado; many special sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many good friends that comforted her during and after her husband's death.

Preceding her in death are her husband, John; parents; brother, Roger; sister, Shirleyann and great-grandchild, Miykell.
