Noble "Newt" F. Wright, 101, of Decatur, formerly of Assumption, died January 17, 2024 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2024 in Salem Baptist Church, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial, with full military honors by Macon County Honor Guard, will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption, IL. Memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church or Eastern Star Home in Macon, IL.
Noble was born on January 16, 1923 in Birds, IL, the son of Silas and Mary (Piper) Wright. He married Doris Edens on August 17, 1949 in Hume, IL. She preceded him in death on September 20, 2021.
Noble was a member of Salem Baptist Church and the Assumption and Moweaqua Rotary Clubs. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and then served as an officer in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war he resumed his education and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Illinois. He later received his Specialist degree from Eastern Illinois University. Noble began his teaching career in the Allerton and Villa Grove school districts. He also served as the Principal for Villa Grove, Homer and Arcola schools and later retired from the Assumption School District as Superintendent.
Noble loved to fish, hunt, play tennis and golf. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini and enjoyed watching and attending games through the years. He especially loved playing games with his family and friends.
Surviving are his sons: Gary (Jane) Wright and Jeff Wright all of Decatur, IL; daughter Vickie (Everett) Holmes of Princeton, IL; grandchildren: Jonathan (Holly), Nathan (Amber), Benjamin (Sarah), Aaron (Melissa), Jordan (Devan), and Gwendelyn (Scott); and eleven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his wife, parents, three brothers and four sisters.
The family wishes to thank the Eastern Star Home in Macon, IL and DMH Cardiovascular Unit for their loving and kind care of our father.
