Mary F. Birley, 84, of Mattoon died April 25, 2017 in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, IL.
A private burial will be at a later date in Bethany Cemetery, rural Assumption. Memorials may be sent to Illinois American Cancer 675 E. Linpon Ave. Springfield, IL 62703 or Autism Society of Central Illinois 5220 South 6th St. Springfield, IL 62703.
Mary was born June 14, 1932 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Jesse and Florence (Burns) Smith. She married Thomas "Tyke" Birley July 17, 1952, in Pana, IL. He preceded her in death August 15, 1990.
Mary was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Mattoon, IL. and a 1950 graduate of Moweaqua High School. She assisted her husband in the grain elevator business for many years and worked as a cashier at Rockome Gardens in Arcola, IL.
Surviving is her daughter, Dawn (Leo) Ferguson of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren: Amber Huskisson, Clinton Huskisson, Sarah (Greg) Coffey and Lucas Ferguson; as well as, ten great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death is her husband; daughter, Rhonda Higgins and parents.
