Leo "Trump" B. Trumper, age 97, of Assumption passed on Sunday June 11, 2017.
Funeral Mass will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017 in St. Mary's Catholic Church of Assumption. Burial, with Full Military Rites, will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption.
Leo was born September 13, 1919 in Pana, a son of Leo P. and Lena (Yenck) Trumper. Leo was the fourth oldest of five boys and two girls. He married Mary Louise Sloan in 1947; she survives.
Other survivors include two children: Jill Trumper of Sullivan, Carol (Tom) Trumper-Lowe of Allen, Texas; four grandchildren: Spencer and Jackson Lowe of Allen, Texas; Lindsey Trumper of Austin, Texas, and Zachary Trumper of New Lenox, IL; one great grandchild Abby Trumper. Also surviving is his sister Denise Hayes of Pana.
He was preceded in death by his son Mark; also by his parents and four brothers Antoine, Eugene, Victor and Richard and one sister Madelaine.
Leo graduated from Pana High School in 1937 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941. After completing basic training at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL, he was promoted to First Sergeant in the Provost and Prison Department which was responsible for training military police for security for U.S. bases statewide and overseas.
After his discharge in 1947, Leo returned to Pana and married. They resided in Assumption where he ran the Assumption Oil Company at the corner of Chestnut and East 1st Street. The business was expanded to an auto parts store residing on Business 51 where he continued to do books into his early 90s.
Leo was a 50-plus-year member of the America Legion Post 284. He was a member of St. Mary's Parish of Assumption.
Spending time with his family was his main passion; he was an avid boater spending time on the Mississippi River as well as on Lake Shelbyville where he managed Fox Harbor in the 70s.
