Laben F. Bowling, Jr., 87, of Decatur, died June 15, 2018 in Moweaqua Nursing and Retirement Center.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June, 19, 2018, also in the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be in Westside Cemetery, Moweaqua. Memorials may be made to Boiling Springs Church of God, Decatur, IL.
Laben was born September 11, 1930 in Columbus, IN, the son of Laben F. and Blanche (Alexander) Bowling, Sr. He married Clora Mann June 11, 1949 in Connorsville, IN. She survives.
Laben was a member of Boiling Springs Church of God in Decatur, IL and had worked at Mueller Company as a machinist for 34 years. He loved his family, camping and music. He played guitar for "Ramblin Red & the Moonlight Ramblers" on radio station WCKY during the 1940's in Cincinnati, OH. Laben proudly served in the United States Army 398 th Division, as a Corporal, in the 8 th Army Artillery in Korea.
Surviving are his wife; son, Jim (Candy) Bowling of Moweaqua, IL; granddaughters: Ginger (Justin) Handy of Moweaqua, IL and Molly (Bryan) Kopetz of Oakley, IL; great-grandsons: Wyatt and Dallas Handy of Moweaqua, IL and sister, Bea Zienkosky of Richardson, TX.
Preceding him in death are his parents and three sisters.
