Obituary

Kenneth B. "Kenny" Etherton, 73, of Assumption, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on March 10, 2022, following a four-year battle with Glioblastoma.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2022 in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2022, also in the funeral home.  Casual dress is requested by the family.  Burial, with full military rites by the Assumption Honor Guard, will be in Bethany Cemetery, Assumption.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or The Glioblastoma Research Organization.

Kenny was born on April 26, 1948 in Decatur, IL, the son of Grover Benton Etherton, Jr. and Erma Leone (Onie) Sharp Etherton.  He married Carol Sue Jesse on April 7, 1973 in Little Flock Baptist Church of Assumption.  She survives.

Kenny was a Navy Veteran, farmer and livestock producer.  He was a charter member and past president of the Moweaqua Lions Club and past president of Shelby County Pork Producers.  He and his wife owned and operated KC's Feed Store in Assumption for ten years.  After the feed store, Kenneth was a machine operator at Grain Systems, retiring after twenty-five years.

Kenny enjoyed working in his garage on various projects.  He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, whom he loved forty bushels!  He was a man of few words, but was animated around his grandchildren.

Kenny is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Carol; son Brandon (Samantha) Etherton of Moweaqua, IL; twin daughters: Karista (Mike) Medler and Kendra (Cody) Jones, all of Assumption, IL; grandchildren: Morgan Hunter, Emma (David) Jack, Jesse Medler, Hailey (Yeager) Minott, Ty Etherton, Jerit B. Medler, Tanner Etherton and Eliot Jones;  step great-granddaughter, Serenity Jack; special nephew, Troy (Marcella) Jesse; niece, Stephanie (Kevin) Ferguson and their children: Brenna and Carter Ferguson; special aunt, Norma McPheron; brothers: Dean (Kathy) Etherton and Jeff (Julie) Etherton; sisters: Beverly (Rick) Bracken and Becky Etherton; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Jesse; and brother-in-law, Bill Jesse.
