John "Johnnie" Arthur Carr, Jr., 102, of Dalton City, IL., died July 24, 2026 in Imboden Creek Gardens, Decatur, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 10, 2026 in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua, IL. A visitation will be from 11:00 – 1:00, prior to service time. Burial, with full military rites, will be in Long Grove Cemetery, Macon, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macon United Methodist Church or Meridian Ag Foundation.
John was born on December 12, 1923 in Macon, IL., the son of John A. and Jessie I. (Bromley) Carr, Sr. He married Edna Mae Appenbrink on November 23, 1946 in Blue Mound, IL. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2009.
John was a lifelong farmer who took great pride in his work and in serving his country as a United States Marine during World War II, where he was stationed in Guam. He was a devoted member of Macon United Methodist Church, Lancaster Dunn American Legion Post #72, and the Macon County Farm Bureau Hall of Fame. John also served as Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Macon and was a former South Macon Ag 4-H leader, generously sharing his knowledge and passion for agriculture with future generations.
Johnnie loved to fish, whether he was at his local pond or traveling to Canada for fishing trips. He cherished time spent with his family, enjoyed farming, and never missed an opportunity to share a good story. He was always ready for a game of horseshoes and loved gathering with family for a friendly game of bags.
Surviving are his sons: John "Jac" Carr III and David (Ann) Carr, all of Macon, IL.; daughters: Jessie Ann Fyffe of Dalton City, IL. and Martha Henderson of Moweaqua, IL.; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his wife, Edna; parents; sisters: Dorothy Stich and Marion Donaldson; and great-grandson, Zeke.
The family would like to thank Imboden Gardens and the hospice nurses for the wonderful care they provided.
