Obituary

Janet Rose Crain, 83, formerly from Assumption IL, died in Sun City, AZ on Thursday, August 30, 2012. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012, 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church in Assumption, IL. A reception and meal will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. The family suggests memorials be given to: Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Janet was born September 14, 1928 in Eau Gallie, Florida during a hurricane; the youngest daughter of Albert O. Stephenson and Ida Ewing (Miller) Stephenson. She married James F. Crain on December 21, 1947 in Eau Gallie, FL.

Survivors include 2 daughters and two sons: Lynda Senn (Doc) of Glendale, AZ; Steve Crain (Rebecca) of Bloomington, IL; Dan Crain (Debbie) of Decatur, IL; and Bekah Phillips (Ed) of Weimar, CA; two sisters: Thelma Mildred Lansden of Melbourne, FL; Marjorie Helen Spaulding of Spring Hill, FL; 13 Grandchildren: Audrey, Heidi, Megan, Melissa, Allison, Mitchell, Brian, Andy, Brandy, Heather, Lee, Shawn and Rachel. Also 11great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband James F. Crain; her parents and two sisters: Mariana Ruth Stephenson and Lillian Louise Stephenson.

Janet was a loving and patient mom and grandmother. She was an avid gardener and succeeded growing a wonderful vegetable garden in the hot arid Arizona climate. She mastered many crafts including knitting, sewing, crochet, and cross stitch to name a few. She enjoyed going out to eat and cheering for the Phoenix Suns. She grew up surrounded by music and song; she began singing at age two, playing the piano at age three and later the violin at age ten. Janet was a member of First United Methodist Church, Assumption, IL from 1961 to 1984. Her gentle soul touched many people and she will be greatly missed.
