George Robert Wehner, 85, of Moweaqua, died April 22, 2024 in Moweaqua Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2024, in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.  Burial will be in Westside Cemetery, Moweaqua.  Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.

George was born on March 3, 1939 in St. Louis, MO, the son of August and Virginia (Carr) Wehner.  August passed and Virginia married Emil Selle, who raised George and his siblings, Nancy and Jim, as his own.  George married Carolyn Sue Redmon on July 23, 1960 in Bloomfield, IA.  She survives.

George joined the United States Army Reserve at age 17.  He later joined the Army and served for twenty-two years, during this time he served two tours in Vietnam with the Big Red One and Tropic Lightning.  George earned many commendations and medals including the Silver Star and several Bronze Stars.  He had the honor to be selected to participate in former President Harry S. Truman's funeral procession.

George retired from the Army and worked for the next twenty-five years at Richland Community College in the security and maintenance departments.  His work and cheerful personality were well appreciated and missed after his retirement.

George is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn; children: Pam (Sid) Clary of D'Hanis, TX, Lori (David) Jones of Hedrick, IA, Veronica (Donald) Parr of Orlando, FL, Tracey (John) Wirries of Moorhead, MN and George (Deb) Wehner of Springfield, IL; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Wehner of Anderson, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents; sister, Nancy (Pete) Webb; former wife, Patsy; and grandson, Jacob Wehner.
