Obituary

Donald Lee "Donnie" Shuster, 86, of Moweaqua, IL, passed away peacefully at home on November 22, 2021.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 26, 2021 in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 25, 2021, also in the funeral home.  Burial will be in Woodlawn (Oddfellows) Cemetery, Moweaqua, IL.  Memorials may be made to Moweaqua Fire Department.  The family requests no flowers and casual dress.

Don was born on November 17, 1935 in McLeansboro, IL,  one of four children born to Fred and Macie (Taylor) Shuster.  He served two years in the United States Army, then returned home to farm with his father.  Don married Evelyn Brooks on April 10, 1964 in Moweaqua, and later farmed with his two sons, Brent and Eric.

Don was involved in Shelby County 4H for many years.  He assisted during the Shelbyville Park building of the 4H animal buildings and many other structures still standing today.  Don was the 4H Leader of Moweaqua Rustlers and served as swine superintendent.

Don served twelve years on the Moweaqua School Board, many years on the Moweaqua Fire Department Board, several years on the Moweaqua Christian Church Board and was a Club Sevilla Resort Board member.

Don is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Evelyn; children: Jain (Mary Ellen) Shuster of Chicago, IL, Brent (Lisa) Shuster and Eric (Laura) Shuster, all of Moweaqua, IL; grandchildren: Matthew and Delaney Shuster and Austin Krohe; brothers: Robert Shuster, Dean, Val and Curtis McPeak; sister, Vicki Egyud; sister-in-law, Carol Shuster; as well as many close cousins, nephews and nieces.

Don will be remembered for his participation in local parades and tractor drives.  His yellow "Mini" and Farmall were part of his life and he never met a stranger.  Don was a co-host and then host of "The Great Goat Roast" for forty years.

Don owed much to Sid Macklin, a wonderful man who gave Don his head start in farming.  The saying goes, "once a farmer, always a farmer" and Don truly was.  He was a fair and honest man to all who knew him.  If asked about details and history of Moweaqua, he could tell you a lot of stories and dates.

Preceding him in death are his parents; siblings: Carl Shuster, Mae (Bob) Hays, Mary Jo Parker and Norma Brehm; and many other close loved ones.
