Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Burgener, 84, of Oreana, died June 14, 2018 in his home.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2018 in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption.  Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:30, prior to service time.  Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption.  Memorials may be made to Moweaqua Tree Park.

Chuck was born June 5, 1934 in Decatur, IL, the son of Harry John and Leona (Allman) Burgener.  He married Shirley Querrey and later married Edna Ping Hawley, December 16, 1988.  She survives.

Surviving are his wife; sons: David (Stacy) Burgener of Vandalia, IL,  Mark (Robin) Burgener of Decatur, IL, and James (Lisa) Burgener of Champaign, IL; daughter, Diane (David) Wilderman of Oreana, IL; thirteen grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Ira) Burgener of Rockville, MD and sister, Margery Dotson of Decatur, IL

Chuck was devoted to his wife Edna, loved family gatherings and playing with his grandkids. He enjoyed mowing with his "John Deere". Chuck always thought of and helped others. He would drop everything to help friends, family or a neighbor in need. He was a man of faith and led by example. He worked for the Macon County Highway Department (his final project was Lost Bridge) , Berry Construction and Thornton Welding. Throughout his life, his focus on the importance of hard work was an inspiration to his colleagues and family.  He also served as Republican precinct committeeman.

Preceding him in death are his parents and one brother.
