A gathering to celebrate the life of Carl L. Seifert, 90, of Moweaqua will be 11:00 am Friday, February 21, 2014 in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday February 20, 2014 in Seitz Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Bilyeu Cemetery, Moweaqua.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Moweaqua.
Carl passed away at Decatur Memorial Hospital, February 17, 2014. He had been a special guest at Imboden Living Center and was treated with much love and respect. The family would like to thank ALL of his extended family at ILC for their warmth and gentle care of Dad.
Carl was born May 26, 1923 in Rome, Indiana to Julius and Jenny Seifert. After his mother's early death, he was sent to Moweaqua to be raised by his aunt and uncle, John and Mammie Seifert.
Carl graduated from Moweaqua High School and married the love of his life, Bonnie Lee Moore, in June of 1943. Their union was a glorious one and they rejoiced in 70 years of marriage.
Carl is survived by his wife; sons, Roger (Cyndi) Seifert and David (Debbie) Seifert; grandchildren, Toby (Lauren) Seifert, Amy (John) Schmahl, Abbey (Brian) Britton and Becky (Jeremy) Zindel; to this he was blessed by 7 great-grandchildren, Owen Seifert, Lane Seifert, Naomi Schmahl, Noah Schmahl, Brody Britton, Gavyn Seifert and Brylee Britton. Carl's greatest accomplishment in life was his family, to which he often affectionately said to mom…"See what we started." He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Elder of Zearing, Iowa.
Carl was engaged as a farmer until 1962. He then became a State Farm agent, retiring in 1996. Carl was still actively involved in First Christian Church where he had attended for 81 years and served as a deacon and elder. He was a member of the Moweaqua Masonic Lodge #180, Springfield Consistory, Ansar Shrine Valley of Springfield, Shelby and Christian County Shrine Club, a Rotarian; winning the Paul Harris Scholarship, charter member of Moweaqua Lions Club; winning the Melvin Jones Fellow award and Kingdom Heir member. His hobbies were auctions and endless book work.
