Bounthieng "Tia" Haksasila, 66, of Moweaqua died February 23, 2016 in his home.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2016, in Destiny Fellowship Church of Moweaqua. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m., prior to service time, also in the church. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery, Moweaqua. Memorials may be made to the Central A&M Sports Program.
Tia was born February 5, 1950, in Vientiane, Laos the son of Thieng and Sy Haksasila. He married Chansamone Keomela August 1, 1973, in Vientiane, Laos. She survives.
Tia was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Moweaqua. He was retired from the Central A&M School District, after working for the Moweaqua and Central A&M high schools as custodian for 34 ½ years. He served as a sergeant in the Laotian Army, for seven years, against the Vietnamese, during the Vietnam War. Tia loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren. He was an avid Cubs fan.
Surviving is his wife Chansamone; sons: Sounthone Haksasila of Moweaqua, Amphone Haksasila of Champaign, Chansouk "John" (Angi Cooper) Haksasila of Decatur; daughter, Viengsavanh "Vien" (Zach) Hite of Moweaqua; grandchildren: Makenna, Keagan and Landyn Haksasila and Austin Taylor; and two brothers.
Preceding him in death are his parents and three brothers.
