Betty Ann Corzine Ebbert Peterson passed away in New Orleans, LA March 25, 2022 at the age of 104.
She was born on November 26, 1917 in Assumption, Illinois to the late Leona Elizabeth Rasbach Corzine and Guy Orville Corzine. Betty graduated from Illinois State University in 1938 with a degree in education and then went on to teach high school business education in Illinois for many years, while raising two children with her husband Emery Ebbert, H.S. football coach.
Betty's hobbies included reading, walking, playing golf, and playing bridge. She was a world traveler and spent time in China, Alaska, South Africa, and Europe. Her favorite place to be was Crystal Lake in Mercer, Wisconsin where she & her family spent summers since 1947. Betty had a strong Christian faith and supported several Christian Missionaries She was very active in her church and PEO , an organization to benefit Women in Education. Her thoughtfulness did not go unnoticed. She never missed remembering friends and relatives with a birthday card. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Betty lived through the Great Depression, losing her mother at age 9, the death of two husbands, and the death of her daughter from Parkinson's Disease. Her advice was: "Try not to worry about the things you cannot change, have Faith in God and move on" She had a wonderful sense of humor and always looked for the good in people.
Betty is preceded in death by her first husband of 44 years, Emery Ellsworth Ebbert; her second husband, Carl Peterson; her brothers, Keith Corzine and Jack Corzine; her daughter, Nancy Lynn Godke, son-in law Robert Godke, PHD and Nephew Chris Corzine.
Betty is survived by her son, Col. Terry James Ebbert (Suzanne) of New Orleans, LA; her five grandchildren, Elizabeth Godke Koonce, PHD (David) of Athens, OH, Kristin Ebbert Lovingood (Jeff) of Jacksonville, NC, Jennifer Godke Harper (Ken) of Denham Springs, LA, Dr. John Godke (Mary) of St. Francisville, LA, Alison Ebbert Slater (Elias) of Los Angeles CA. Betty is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; Emery, Ashleigh & Andrew Godke, Bozeman Koonce, Kendal , Braytin, Jace & Britleigh Harper, Emery, & Theodore Slater; and nieces and nephews; Janie Allen (Len), Peggy Corzine, Mary Beth Bull (Mark, deceased), Stephen Corzine (Patty), Phil Corzine (Carolyn), and Susan Singleton (Ron).
Betty's life will be celebrated on April 11th at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Assumption, Illinois with viewing at noon and service to follow at 2 pm.
